GREENVILLE — Fascinated by pirates? Intrigued by archaeology? Curious about artifact conservation? Come to the Queen Anne’s Revenge Conservation Lab Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to learn about these things and more. Meet and interact with the archaeologists and conservators responsible for conserving, documenting and investigating Blackbeard’s flagship. Experience different stages of an artifact’s journey from recovery to display.

Visitors will learn how artifacts are recorded on the seabed, look through a microscope at some of the smallest objects, see what mysteries are revealed in x-rays, have a picture taken with a recently recovered cannon and much more.

All ages are welcome to this free event and no registration is required. The lab is located on East Carolina University’s West Research Campus, about 10 miles west of the main campus in Greenville. For more information about the open house and the lab, please visit www.qaronline.org or contact Courtney Page at 252-744-6721 or by email atcourtney.page@ncdcr.gov.

The Queen Anne’s Revenge Shipwreck Project is administered by the Office of State Archaeology in the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources.
