From the Beaufort County Democratic Party
The Beaufort County Democratic party held a sheriff’s forum for its candidates on Monday night in the Superior Court room. Candidates in attendance were Al Whitney, Gary Blount, Russell Davenport and Val Scales. Todd Alligood was not able to attend due to a prior engagement, but was represented by Capt. Philllip Lee from the Robersonville Police department. Each candidate made compelling arguments as to why they are the best choice to replace current Sheriff Alan Jordan, who is not seeking reelection. A good crowd attended the event, which was moderated by Bartow Houston, who presented each candidate with a series of questions. Houston was assisted by Clerk of Court Marty Paramore, who served as timekeeper. Each candidate was given three minutes to respond to the various questions.
Democratic Party Chair Laurel Miller said she was pleased to see the crowd and thanked all those in attendance.
“This event was planned to allow the voters to be well informed about their choices with the May primary drawing near,” Miller said. “We wanted to give our candidates the voters the opportunity to be well informed and we appreciate their participation.’’
