One Marion man landed in jail on a visit to Washington; another, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, after the two had an argument that ended in violence.
Sunday night, law enforcement was called to a fight in progress at a Baker Drive home in Washington, according to a press release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Once there, deputies found a man who’d been stabbed in the abdomen, the release said.
Jose Lavastida, 41, of Yancey Street, Marion, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
According to sheriff’s office spokesman Maj. Kenneth Watson, alcohol use by both the victim and Lavastida appeared to a contributing factor in the incident, but the cause of their argument was unknown.
At the time of the incident, three other people were in the home — one of whom called law enforcement, he said.
The victim was taken to Vidant Beaufort Hospital and was later transferred to Vidant Medical Center. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Watson said the knife used in the incident was recovered from the scene.
Lavastida is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.
