Alton Neal Woolard Sr., 63, died Sunday, June 12, 2011.
Born on April 20, 1948, in Washington, N.C., he was the son of the late James H. and Charlotte Wallace Woolard.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1971 and received two Purple Hearts, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, and Navy Commendation Medal. He retired in 1995 from C.O. Tankard Company.
Al is survived by his children, Alton N. Woolard, Jr., Sara W. Kleinknecht, both of Greenville, N.C.; brothers, Leonard, Bobby T, Preston, Dwain and Rex Woolard; sisters, Gloria Ormond, Anita Bridgeman and granddaughter, Channing Elizabeth Mitchell. He is predeceased by his brother, Johnny Woolard.
A celebration gathering will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Kenneth Ormond’s Shop in Bayview, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a VFW Post of one’s choice.
