With its brand new facility opening on April 8, and a ribbon cutting May 1, Precision Eye Care is putting a stamp on eye care in eastern North Carolina and Washington.
Washington Mayor Mac Hodges, along with North Carolina Senator Bill Cook, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Dr. Jitendra Swarup, owner of the practice, took the Precision Eye Care name because of the surgery he performs called LenSx, a technology and high performance surgery. The precision that it takes is the source of the name.
“We’ve expanded our already talented staff, and the thousands of additional square feet will provide plenty of space and comfort for our patients and our team,” Swarup said in a press release.
Dunn and Dalton Architects from Kinston designed the building, while Washington-based construction firm WIMCO built the state-of-the-art, 25,000-square feet facility, which includes an operating room.
Doctors Dennis O’Neal and Chuck Baltimore owned the original practice, Washington Eye Clinic, but after the death of O’Neal and Baltimore’s retirement, Swarup, a partner in the clinic, purchased the practice.
Swarup rebranded the practice and is considered one of the leading ophthalmologists in eastern North Carolina in LenSx surgery, according to Rachel Gardner, chief operating officer at Precision Eye Care.
“When a patient has cataract surgery, they can have traditional or LenSx surgery, which means the patient wouldn’t need glasses at all,” Gardner said. “Years ago or even now, when a patient has basic cataract surgery, the patient still needs glasses for close reading.”
One of company’s goals in the rebranding is to be known as having the best technology on both the ophthalmology and optometry side. They also have state-of-the-art technology, according Gardner.
The company sells glasses and contacts in all price ranges for all ages. According to Gardner, they want to be known as the best place in Washington to get eyes examined and have surgery.
“Dr. O’Neal and Dr. Baltimore had that (everything under one roof) in their practice at the Washington Eye Clinic, but I don’t think they grew it the way they wanted to,” Gardner said. “It was a very small building and they outgrew the facility they were in. So we built the largest facility, so we could house more doctors and bring in more patients.”
