L to R: Kimberly Grimes, Kay Summerfield, Beth Byrd and Amy Ward
On Friday, April 26, 2014, as anyone who was here will attest, our community was hit by a series of small, but devastating, tornadoes. Home and property damage was extensive. In the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors, the businesses of the downtown community bandied together and set aside a day in which they would donate a percentage of their sales to the Red Cross. That day was Saturday, May 3 and the response was tremendous.
Beth Byrd, Director of the Washington Harbor District Alliance, said, “a lot of the people in the community don’t realize how involved the downtown businesses are and how much they give back. This is just another example of how fortunate Washington is to have this group of local business owners serving our community.” She was pleased to be able to present the Red Cross with a check in the amount of $2,000.00 at the monthly Board meeting of the Washington Harbor District Alliance.
