Apollo Steakhouse’s celebrity chef benefit for Ruth’s House will feature Beaufort County Commissioner candidate Ron Buzzeo tonight in downtown Washington. This is Apollo’s second fundraiser for the local domestic abuse shelter.
Owner Angel Borg asked Buzzeo if he would participate after he participated in last month’s fundraiser.
“I met Mr. Buzzeo when I used to worked for Cypress Landing and Café Duo, so I felt like I knew him enough to ask him,” Borg said.
Borg said she has noticed that the community wants to come out and help other members of the community who are in need.
“Even though we aren’t doing any huge numbers that Ruth’s House experienced for Our Amazing Race, I feel like these base hits win ball games,” Borg said. “If we continue to do them, there will be a steady flow of charity on the way to Ruth’s House.”
For tonight’s event, Buzzeo will be cooking two authentic Italian dishes. One of the dishes is pasta with meatballs and sweet Italian sausage. He will also prepare a rib eye steak with baked potato and vegetables.
For the vegetarians, Buzzeo said he and his cooking staff for the evening will prepare a delectable dish for that crowd as well.
“It is all going to be homemade sauces, none of the jar stuff, “ Buzzeo said. “ The garlic bread is going to be made there and we are buying the Italian sausage. This is my grandmothers recipe who immigrated from Italy.”
Apollo’s is donating 10 percent of day’s food sales to Ruth’s House. Last month, the restaurant brought in $430 during the four-hour fundraiser.
“Apollo’s Steakhouse and Ruth’s House is a tremendous partnership for the local community,” said Deb Ryals, president of Ruth’s House. “Angel has done a great job keeping our name out there and her community support is very appreciated.”
Next month, Beaufort County Commissioner candidate Keith Kidwell is scheduled to be the celebrity chef at Apollo Steakhouse.
