Bruce Lambert Peele, Sr. of 2121 Piney Grove Church Road, Williamston, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. Service will be held on Friday, June 20 at 11:00 A.M. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Williamston. Burial with military honors will follow at Tice Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home. Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions to Griffins Township Fire Department, c/o Bruce L. Peele, Jr., 1010 Bobby Roberson Road, Williamston, North Carolina 27892.
Bruce was born October 28, 1924 in Griffins Township to Noah Riddick Peel, Sr. and Caddie Peel Peel. He was a farmer and carpenter until his retirement. Bruce served in the United States Army during World War II and was wounded in the Battle of Sugar Loaf Hill in Okinawa. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and the Adult Men’s Class 2 as long as his health allowed. Bruce served the church as a deacon for many years. He was a member of Griffins Township Fire Department. On March 2, 2002, he married his friend and companion Trula Tice Peele. They were happily married for 12 years. In recent years, he loved to work on his farm and loved to work with his back hoe.
Survivors include his wife, Trula; son, Bruce L. Peele, Jr. and wife Cynthia of Williamston; step-daughters, Carol Bazemore and husband Larry of Williamston and Sherry Davis and husband Jim of Raleigh; granddaughters Laura Ann Peele of Bath and Caddie Peele Cowin and husband Jonathan of Williamston, step-grandson Jesse Bazemore and wife Holly of Raleigh, Katy Carman of Williamston, his Little Buddy – great-grandson Cooper Thomas Cowin of Williamston, step-great-grandson Eric Carman of Williamston. Bruce is also survived by his sister Myrnie Perry and husband Tupper of Williamston, sister-in-law Jenny Peel of Bath, brother-in-law Joe Johnson, Jr. of Williamston, and brother-in-law Burnice Sparrow of Chapel Hill. Bruce is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and special friend Danny Griffin.
Bruce was predeceased by wife Ida Corey Peele. They were married for 57 years. He was also predeceased by his sister Grace Sparrow and brother N.R. Peel.
