Aurora was the latest scene in series of methamphetamine busts in Beaufort County lately.

Monday, four people were arrested and charged with meth possession and production after Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a domestic dispute: Corey O’Neal Cahoon, 34, and Brandi Price Cahoon, 33, both of 1640 South Goose Creek Road, Grantsboro, and Dudley Alvin Paul III, 49, and Nancy Lou McKinney, 56, both of 1691 Walker Road, Aurora, were arrested.

A spokesman for the sheriff’s office drug unit said often domestic dispute calls are associated with drug use, so investigators with the unit decided to assist with the call.

According to a press release, when deputies and investigators arrived at the scene, the smell of marijuana coming from inside the residence and interviews with the four people staying there led to probable cause for a search warrant. Inside the home, meth and marijuana were found in several locations, as well as several items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine including pseudoephedrine, the release said.

“We had already had prior knowledge of Corey Cahoon and Brandi Cahoon out of Pamlico County, in terms of their meth use and meth production,” said a drug unit spokesman. “They came our radar through the NPLEx database, through pseudoephedrine purchases.”

NPLEx is a database that tracks purchases of pseudoephedrine, alerting officials when people are purchasing above average amounts of the drug — a red flag for meth production.

The spokesman said an amount between a 1/2 gram and a gram of meth was found in the house.

“It’s common to find smaller quantities (of meth) because of the process of manufacturing it and the addictiveness of the drug,” the spokesman said. “They cook it and use it very fast.”

Corey Cahoon, Brandi Cahoon, Dudley Paul III and Nancy McKinney were all arrested and charged with manufacture methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition to those charges, Corey and Brandi Cahoon both charged with resist, delay, obstruct a public officer — Corey, on an older arrest warrant from Pamlico County; Brandi, for refusing to heed an officer’s orders Monday.

According to the drug unit spokesman, deputies first on the scene learned a firearm was in one of the vehicles at the home — one that Brandi Cahoon attempted to approach.

“Deputies told her to stop and she didn’t listen,” the spokesman said.

A 14-year-old child was also present at the home but was allowed to leave with another relative, according to officials.

The four arrested were held overnight without bond at the Beaufort County Detention Center before each was issued a $250,000 secured bond. As a matter of public safety, in any methamphetamine arrest, bond is not set until the case is assessed in court.
