William Henry “Bill” Shoemaker
May 22, 1936 – June 29, 2014

William Henry “Bill” Shoemaker, age 78, a resident of Harvey Rd., Washington, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice. A celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Dr. Burke Holland and Pastor Ed Drew. A private burial will be held on the Shoemaker Farm for family and close friends following the service. Jerol Selby, Lester Sullivan, Sr., Craig Penny, Curtis Edward Wells, Ed Everett and Joe Jordan will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC and other times at the home.

Bill was born in Rowan County on May 22, 1936 son of the late Henry and Annie Atwell Shoemaker. On April 9, 1955 he married Norma Ann Morgan Shoemaker who preceded him in death on December 23, 2012. He retired as a chemist with National Spinning Co. Bill made Beaufort County his home for more than 40 years.  He was a member of  Smithton Baptist Church. Bill was founder of Double “S” Training Stable where he trained and showed many horses and was a well respected Horse Show judge. He was a avid fisherman and rabbit hunter. Bill supported the athletic departments at Bath and Northside.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Devonia Ann Shoemaker Worthington and husband Ronald of Maury, NC and Linda Carol Shoemaker and Wayne Sullivan, Jr. of Bath; his granddaughter, Amanda Lauren Steele and Craig Penny of Hookerton, NC; his brother, Clifford Shoemaker of Cleveland, NC; and his sister, Thelma Lambe of Lexington, NC and his granddog Annie Nell.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Kelly, Lester and Frank Shoemaker; and his sisters, Annie Nell Parks and Inez Shoemaker.
