SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Tynita Butts represented East Carolina well as she turned in a top-five showing at the 2014 USA Track and Field (USATF) Outdoor National Championships on Sunday.

The six-time All-American came placed fifth and finished first among student-athletes representing their respective universities. Butts tallied a mark of 1.85-meters (6’ 0.75”), as she finished behind professional athletes Chaunte Lowe and Brigetta Barrett, who represented Nike and placed second and third, respectively.

Inika McPherson, an unattached runner who previously competed at Cal, won the event with a clearance of 2.00 meters (6’ 6.75”).

Butts is the East Carolina school record holder in both the high jump (1.91 meters, 6’ 3.25”) and long jump (6.22-meters, 20’ 5”). The Alexandria, Va. native concluded her collegiate career with a number of accolades under her belt as she was named the 2014 Conference USA Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, Field Athlete of the Meet at the prestigious Penn Relays, and is the highest-ever finisher at the NCAA Championships after placing second earlier this month with a clearance of 1.86-meters (6’ 1.25”), which was just one inch shy of winning the national title.
