A new business is open in downtown Columbia.

The Main Street Gym located at 201 Main Street opened last week July 1 and has a variety of fitness equipment available for local needs.

“I was in business for myself before. I had a bakery thrift store. I got into lifting weights and exercising. I had a buddy that mentioned something about opening up a gym but at the time I did not think much of it,” said Glenn Brickhouse, owner of the Gym.

Brickhouse mentioned  that he realized there was no available gym in Columbia around the time he was talking to his friend. He put out fliers and signups sheets around town to gauge interest.

“There was a lot of interest in it,” said Brickhouse.

A estimated 50 people came in to visit the facilities on its opening day.

“People came in to ask questions. A couple people signed up Tuesday for memberships,” said Brickhouse.

Brickhouse said he would like to add televisions for the treadmills. He also wants to add mirrors and a shower facility later on.

Luke Fleishman, a Columbia resident, will help Brickhouse part-time.
