From the Elizabethan Gardens
Manteo — Ready to hula again? Attendees at The Elizabethan Gardens will once again have the chance to hone their hula skills according to Carl Curnutte executive director of The Elizabethan Gardens. At last year’s premier event, guests enjoyed hula lessons, Polynesian food, Hawaiian attire, tropical drinks and watched traditional Hawaiian dances as the sunset on the tiki-lit lawn of The Gardens. And The Gardens plans on bringing more of the same Hawaiian excitement at this year’s Elizabethan Luau.“We set out to do a different kind of event last year,” commented Sandra Snapp chair of the Elizabethan Gardens board. She explained, “With so many imaginative fundraising events on the beach we were excited to do something out of the ordinary and thrilled to bring the excitement of the islands once again to our garden.”
The Elizabethans were fascinated with the exotic, explained Curnutte. He added, “While Hawaii wasn’t discovered until much later, it wouldhave captured their imaginations. And the lush green scape of The Gardens under the September night-sky will create the perfect atmosphere for Polynesian food, drinks, dancing and excitement.”
The volunteer committee has met for several months in preparations for the luau. They have set their Hawaiian-themed fundraising event to be Saturday, September 20 from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Individual tickets for the Elizabethan Luau are $70, reserved tables of eight are $800. Tickets for Members of The Elizabethan Gardens are $65 for individuals.
