A Box Tops for Education Program is available at Tyrrell Elementary School.

Box Tops for Education is one of the nation’s largest school earnings loyalty programs and has been helping schools succeed since 1996. With over 250 participating products, it’s an easy way for schools to earn cash for the things they need.
Over 90,000 K-8 schools participate nationwide in the Box Tops for Education program. Each Box Tops coupon is worth 10¢.Schools can use their Box Tops cash to buy whatever they need most, from books to field trips to playgrounds. So far, America’s schools have earned over $600 million from the Box Tops for Education Program.

“For the last several years, ten or fifteen at the Elementary School, they have been collecting the Box Tops from various products. They cut out the little labels off of various products, and then we submit them to the company,” said Jana Rawls, principal at Tyrrell Elementary School.

Rawls said that last year almost 700 dollars from 7,000 Boxtops labels were collected for the BoxTops for Education Program.
“So if we can have community people besides just the parents of the kids here in the school to help us, then we can get some much needed playground equipment. Our playground equipment is same playground equipment that was here when I was in elementary school,” said Rawls.

Rawls said that the Boxtops for Education program could see more collection.

“This is when you consider all the people in the county and the fact that just about every product you purchase has a BoxTop on it,” said Rawls.

The money collected from Boxtops last year was used to purchase some new swings chains and seats.

“We need some other equipment out on the playground. We have a handicapped student that has nothing to play on,” said Rawls.

310 students are at the Tyrrell Elementary School. Many of the students participate in the program.

“One of our parents has asked Food Lion if we could put a donation box in Food Lion. They have agreed to allow us to do that,” said Rawls.

Rawls emphasized that the box is available for everyone to use.

“If parents as they are coming to do their normal shopping could cut off the Boxtops from the previous week and just drop them in the box at Food Lion as they go, then we will meet our goal much sooner,” said Rawls.
