Mr. H. Milton Cox, age 97, a resident of 812 River Road, Washington died Tuesday morning September 23, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

A private graveside service will be held.  The family will receive friends 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday September 25, 2014 at the home.

Mr. Cox was born in Beaufort County on September 14, 1917, son of the late Herman David Cox and Sophronia Oakley Cox.  He was valedictorian of the first graduating class of Chocowinity High School in 1936.  Mr. Cox attended East Carolina Teacher’s College (ECU), Texas Christian University and Mississippi Institute of Aeronautics.  Mr. Cox served his country in the US Army Air Corp during 1940-1941 and the US Naval Air Force during 1942-1946.  He was Vice President of Moss Planing Mill Co., Vice President of Lane, Cox & Litchfield Corp and owner of Gold Leaf Tobacco Warehouse.  He was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ since 1937.  Mr. Cox married the former Margie Dixon who survives.

In addition to his wife, Margie of the home, he is survived by his daughter: Wendy Karen Cox of Washington; his granddaughter: Blair Cox Hofmann and husband Joseph and their daughter, Jasmine of Raleigh; his brother: Howard Douglas Cox of Naples, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Tommy Cox and David Cox.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Old Ford Church of Christ Building Fund, 6040 US Hwy 17 North, Washington, NC  27889.
