Daniel Arland Meyer, 66, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at his home on Broad Creek near Washington, North Carolina.

He was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Mary Fletcher and Daniel Meyer, attended high school in Akron, Ohio, graduated from The Ohio State University and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He lived in the Washington, D.C., area, Eagle, Colorado, and Charlotte, North Carolina, during a long career as a computer software architect.

Dan moved to Washington in 2000 after his marriage to Judith Luna. He was on the Executive Board of the Pamlico Sail and Power Squadron, served on the Board of Directors of the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation, and was a member of the Washington Yacht and Country Club. Dan loved golf, boating, the Buckeyes, skiing and hiking, travel, and his friends and family.

His wife Judith remains at their home with their two pups Obie and Kasey Gracie Gaga. His mother lives in Annapolis, Maryland. His family includes sisters Karen Mohney of Lawrence, Kansas, and Diana Meyer of Annapolis, Maryland, four nieces and a nephew.

Instead of memorial services, Dan would invite his friends to enjoy Goose Creek State Park, the Pamlico River, or the Rocky Mountains, his favorite places.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Beaufort County Humane Society, The Friends of Goose Creek State Park or The Pamlico Tar River Foundation.
