PLYMOUTH — During the fall season, area churches host their annual fall-fling events, and one church in Plymouth and a church in Washington are prepping for their events the weekend of Nov. 22.

First Christian Church in Plymouth hosts its second-annual Fall Fling and Bazaar on Nov. 22 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Christian Women’s Fellowship and the Christian Men’s Fellowship of the church have headed up a number of projects for the church, as well as some mission projects to meet needs in the community and throughout the world, said Diane Cole, a church elder and member of the church’s Fall Fling Committee.

“We’re trying to keep it up each year to focus on community needs,” Cole said. “Last year, proceeds went to our food pantry so it’s local mission needs, as well as our church funds. This money will go to some kind of mission project. This year, it will go to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It’s more or less to make them aware of what Christ has done for all of us and what we can do for Him. We want to continue it, and keep our main focus, which is on mission projects, church-related as well as community-related.”

Members and subgroups of the church have prepped to have multiple booths and stations available during the event: a yard sale, which has brought items from church and community members, including yard and mechanical tools, toys, books, CDs, electronics; a clothes giveaway, featuring children and adult shoes and apparel; a bouncy house, which provides entertainment for the young attendees; a produce and canned-goods station; a “white-elephant” station, which will feature items that are deemed too good or valuable to be sold in the yard sale; a fall/Christmas station, which includes decorations for inside and outside the home, wreaths, Christmas swags, ornaments and much more; and a needlework station, which will feature an array of knitted and crocheted items; a crafts station; and a kitchen station. The church’s youth group is responsible for some of the stations, as well, Cole said.

There are two aspects of the event that are new, Cole said. For the first time, the church will be conducting a raffle, with several items that will be distributed, including a $100 grocery gift card for Piggly Wiggly, a $50 Hess gas card, a wooden casserole dish carrier, a dish and a pottery crab bowl. Tickets for the raffle are $1 each, and the drawing will be held at 3 p.m. the day of the Fall Fling. Winners do not have to be present to win, Cole said.

The second new booth the church will have available is a prayer booth, manned by the church elders, Cole said. The station is, more or less, a ministry booth where people can pray together, and free Bibles will be given away, Cole said.

First United Methodist Church of Washington will also be hosting its annual Fall Fling event Nov. 21-22, featuring a variety of activities and Christmas-related items. Please see the Nov. 22 edition of the Washington Daily News for more information about the event.
