The Indians prevented the Bulldogs from finding the end zone through the final half hour of the 32-minute Community Youth Football League 8U championship game, as Chocowinity took home the title with a 12-6 win over Belhaven on Saturday.

The first time Belhaven’s standout running back, Quayshawn Artis, touched the football, it was like a cannon being fired from a warship. Artis looped around the defense and shot up the sideline, leaving the Indians defense in his wake, going 45 yards on the first play from scrimmage. It was a run that had the Chocowinity coaching staff upset, scratching their heads, hoping the defense would be able to put the early blemish behind it.

But first, it was the offense that provided a quick response. Chocowinity running backs Nick Langley and Tequon Moore led an unstoppable charge up field and Moore was the one to punch it on five-yard run, tying the game at six.

For the remainder of the half, it was a battle of the defenses, each one keeping their respective opponent from picking up any big plays.

But on the first drive of the season half, a 25-yard run from Moore placed the Chocowinity offense within the 10-yard line, where Moore finished. As both defenses played strong, neither team was able to find the end zone for the rest of the game.

Moore finished with 63 yards on 13 carries, while Langley notched 47 yards on 12 carries. For the Bulldogs, Artis recorded 63 yards on 11 carries.
