Mr. Melvin Mayo Davenport, age 59, a resident of Kill Devil Hills, NC and a former resident of Belhaven died Monday November 24, 2014.

A graveside service will be held at Belhaven Community Cemetery, Belhaven at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014.

Melvin was the son of the late William “Tom” Davenport and Alice Marie Adams Davenport who survives.  He was well known for his excellent skills in small engine repairs and owned his own business.

Surviving along with his mother Marie Davenport of Belhaven are two brothers: William “Cowboy” Davenport and Douglas Davenport both of Washington and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother Haywood Davenport and two sisters: Linda Summerland and Shirley Lewis.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorials to be made to the Melvin Davenport Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1465, Washington, NC 27889.
