REV. LUTHER R. BURNS JR.

July 9, 1932 – Dec. 22, 2014

 

Luther Reynolds Burns Jr. died December 22, 2014 in Jonesboro, GA. He was born July 9, 1932 in Beaufort County. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Burns, who preceded him in death, as well as his brother Donald Burns and a sister Atha Mae Burns and brother-in-laws Eugene (Bud) Waters and William (Bill) Waters, a sister-in-law, Annie Waters, and father and mother-in-law, Bryan and Alice Waters.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Delores Ann Waters of Beaufort County; 2 sons, Phillip Burns and wife Jennifer of Murfreesboro, TN and Larry Burns and his wife Ronda Burns of Gallatin, TN. He has 6 grandchildren in Tennessee: Brandi, Ethan, Katie, Steven, Allison, and Charles. He is also survived by sister-in-laws Nita Burns, Rae Waters and Gail Waters, and by his brother-in-law Johnny Waters, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Luther Burns was a graduate of Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN. He pastored churches in North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia. Since retirement, he has been teaching at Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Fairburn, GA. The family would like to express their appreciation to members of this church and also to members of the Free Will Baptist Church in Swainsboro, GA, where he was pastor for 13 years.

The visitation will be held at Paul Funeral Home in Belhaven, NC on Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 PM, with graveside service afterward at Belhaven Community Cemetery.  A visitation will be held 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM in Fairburn, Georgia, on January 3, 2015 at Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.  A memorial service will follow the visitation at the church in Fairburn, Georgia.
