The Washington Youth Basketball League officially began its 2015 season this weekend, holding the first set of games on Friday and the opening ceremony on Saturday.

This week’s Daily News WYBL Game of the Week featured a battle between the Hornets and Knicks out of the Mite Division.

Both teams matched each other in the first quarter, as the Knicks’ Kisaih Booth challenged a mob of defenders in the paint, banking shots and coming through with second-chance points. For the Hornets, floor leader Tanaeja White matched Kisaih Booth offensively and fought for rebounds down low.

With the score tied at eight apiece, a strong offensive first quarter gave way to a defensive-minded second. The Knicks’ Kalijah Booth and Ty’Juan Copeland capitalized from range and played tight defense in the paint. The Hornets led 13-12 at the half.

The performance of White and Jameshia Jordan in the third quarter proved to be the different in the game. In a two-minute period, both players combined for six points and widened the lead, but a pair of baskets from Kisaih Booth kept the Knicks in the game.

Kisaiah Booth tried to put the team on his back in the final 10 minutes, coming up with 10 fourth-quarter rebounds, but it was too little too late. The Hornets went on to win, 27-22.

Kisaiah Booth finished with a game-high 14 points and 20 rebounds, while teammate Kalijah Booth notched eight points. For the Hornets, Tanaeja White finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Narque Oden notched a quiet six points.

The Hornets will face the Clippers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Knicks look to rebound against the Spurs at 6:30 p.m.
