JULIAN B. LEWIS

Feb. 10, 1934 – Jan. 18, 2015

 

Mr. Julian “Bill” Brown Lewis, age 80, a resident of 2672 Old New Bern Rd, Chocowinity, died Sunday January 18, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM on Wednesday January 21, 2015 at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Henry Horne.

Mr. Julian was born in Pitt County on February 10, 1934, son of the late Shelley Glenn Lewis and Rena Bell Hodges Lewis. On August 19, 1973, he married the former Jean Ricks Keel. After his time in the army, he became an ironworker and worked many construction jobs. He retired from J.H. Cuthrell Construction after 29 years of service. He was a member of the Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and the American Legion. He loved his dirt bikes and even sponsored and raced them.

Survivors include his wife: Jean Ricks Lewis; three daughters: Sue Smith and husband Randy of Chocowinity, Jeanene Matkins and husband John of Washington and Shelley Melton and husband Ted of Washington; two sons: Randy Keel and Jimmy Keel both of Chocowinity; three sisters: Barbara Bright of Chocowinity, Robin Vaught of Chocowinity and Jackie Asby of Washington; a brother: Thomas “Buddy” Lewis of Eastern Shores, VA;  six grandchildren: Billie Sue Smith of Cleveland, OH, Paula Watson, Kathryn Smith and Paul Keel all of Chocowinity, Joseph Keel of Winterville and Ethan Melton of Washington, and ten great grandchildren.

Mr. Julian is preceded in death by his parents; a sister: Gilda Woolard, and two granddaughters: Laurel Matkins and Ashley Matkins.

The family will receive friends 2:00-3:00 PM prior to the service on Wednesday at Union Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home located at, 2672 Old New Bern Rd, Chocowinity.
