Learn poker from an expert

With tournaments televised and available on the Internet almost every day, poker has gained popularity in recent years. If you have ever wanted to learn how to play but didn’t know where to start, let poker champion Charles Gullette show you how.

The Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College will offer Enjoying Poker from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays beginning Feb. 9 and ending March 16 in Room 816 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus/

Gullette will introduce students to the fun of poker and its variations. Starting with Texas Hold ‘Em, Seven Card Stud and Five Card Draw, students will become familiar with different poker games. They will learn poker etiquette, rules of the game, hand rankings, poker psychology and betting and raising techniques. The final night of class will be a class tournament.

The registration fee is $40.

 Learn to play the guitar

Bring that guitar that’s been sitting around collecting dust and finally learn to play it in this class offered by the Division of Continuing Education at Beaufort County Community College!

The class will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Feb. 10 and ending March 5 in the auditorium of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The registration fee is $45.

Instructor Churchill Hodges will teach students the major and minor chords on a guitar and the best method for moving between them. Students will choose their favorite playing style – whether it’s using a flat pick or finger picking – and learn to play using that style.

The class will explore various types of music such as folk, southern rock, blues, contemporary Christian, rock and bluegrass. Each class session will include group and individual instruction.

Learn to knit with Elaine Roberson

Popular instructor Elaine Roberson returns to Beaufort County Community College this spring to introduce students to the relaxing hobby of knitting.

The class, offered by the Division of Continuing Education, will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Feb. 10 and ending March 31 in Room 830 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus. The registration fee is $40.

Students in the class will begin by learning the basic stitches of knit and purl. They will then learn to gather materials for their projects and learn to cast-on, cast-off, increase and decrease stitches and choose the appropriate needles. After this class, students will be eager to move on to more complex projects.

For one class session, students will be able to travel to Yearning for Yarn, a full-service knitting shop in Plymouth.

HED: Learn to use Google+ and Google Local

 

Want to learn more about how social media can help you improve your business and gain new customers? Business and Industry Services at Beaufort County Community College will show you how in this workshop scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, in Room 828 of Building 8 on the BCCC campus.

Success coach, speaker, trainer and author, Martin Brossman will outline the best use of Google+ and help you apply the concept of social validation to your business through the use of positive reviews. Workshop attendees will also learn about the important features of Google+ including Google Places, Google Authorship and Google Hangouts.

Brossman has been mastering the art of networking in the Triangle since 1982. His computer skills have given him the ability to create and teach crucial new Internet communications such as blogging, podcasting and online networking. Brossman has provided training since 2006 to Small Business Centers and Chambers of Commerce throughout North Carolina.

The workshop is co-sponsored by the Washington/Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce.
