On Monday January 26th, 2015 the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office conducted a followup welfare check of a Tyrrell County resident who lived off U.S. 64 app 12 miles east of Columbia. As a result of the welfare check around 3:00pm deputies located human remains believed to be those of Kay Grayson 67, of Columbia. The remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Greenville for further examination. Assisting in the search and investigation were the Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office, Tyrrell County Emergency Management, N.C.D.P.S. Corrections K-9, Tyrrell County Medical Examiner and the N.C.Wildlife Resources Commission. Tyrrell County Sheriff Darryl Liverman does not believe that foul play was  involved. The investigation is ongoing.
