Mrs. Margaret Wynne Gaskins, age 92, a former resident of East Haven Apartments, and more recently a resident of Britthaven, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003.
Funeral services will be held in the Paul Funeral Home chapel in Washington on Monday, March 3 at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev. Greg Barmer. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. The following will serve as pallbearers: Frederic W. Gurganus, Martin D. Gurganus, Jeffrey N. Gurganus, Lloyd Bost, Edward Faison and Thomas Braswell.
The family will greet friends at Paul Funeral Home Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. Those wishing to send a memorial contribution in lieu of flowers are asked to consider the First Baptist Church, 113 N. Harvey St., Washington, NC 27889.
Mrs. Gaskins was born in Beaufort County, Nov. 6, 1910, the daughter of the late Octavius Battle Wynne and Clara Jane Cutler Wynne. She was educated in the local schools. She was married to Alexander Foy Gaskins on Dec. 21, 1955, who died on Dec. 28, 1984. For 17 years, Mrs. Gaskins was the cashier at the Beaufort County Curb Market and later served as receptionist at the Oden Funeral Home here for 22 years.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, was a member of the Pineville Home Demonstration Club and served as president. She was former president of the Beaufort County Council on Home Demonstration Clubs and was a former member of the Washington Business and Professional Women's Club.
She is survived by a sister, Doris W. Gurganus of Washington; a stepson, James B. Gaskins Sr. and wife, Mary, of Orange Park, Fla.; stepgranddaughter, Beth Gaskins of Orange Park, Fla.; stepgrandson, James B. Gaskins Jr. and wife, Debra, of Charleston, S.C.; nephews, J. Eugene Hodges and wife, Sandra W. Hodges; Frederic W. Gurganus and Joseph V. Gurganus Jr. and wife, Harriett, all of Washington; nieces, Mary Wynne Faison of Wendell and Margaret Octavia Bost and husband, Lloyd Bost, of South Boston, Va.; and Frances Madeline Wynne of Hampstead; a sister-in-law, Alice E. Wynne of South Boston, Va.; great-nephews, Martin D. Gurganus and wife, Carla, and Jeffrey N. Gurganus and wife, Julia, all of Maryland.
She was preceded in death by sisters: Lucy W. Vaughan, Jeanne W. Hodges and Maude Wynne and by brothers: Frederick Wynne and O.B. Wynne Jr.
