CHOCOWINITY — An organization that focuses on granting hunting and fishing adventures for disabled children is gearing up for its inaugural banquet fundraiser next month.

On April 4 at the Tarheel Variety Theater in Chocowinity, Angels N Camo, a Beaufort County-based nonprofit organization, will host ‘A Night Out With Angels N Camo,’ a banquet that will feature a live and silent auction, musical entertainment and dinner, catered by the Filling Station of Robersonville, said Lisa Adams, founder and president of Angels N Camo. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner is served at 6:30 p.m., the live auction starts at 7 p.m. and entertainment begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person, $80 for couples and a table sponsorship, which includes eight tickets and an entry into a drawing to win a 65-quart Yeti cooler, is $350, according to Adams.

Adams said the live auction will feature a turkey hunt donated by an organization in Ahoskie, a Camouflage TV, large home décor pictures of ducks, deer and other wildlife scenes, a hand-painted turkey scene on a turkey feather by a local artist and some Yeti cooler giveaways. The silent auction will include ECU football tickets and a Guy Harvey necklace, to name a few. There will also be door prizes, most of which will be gift certificates from local restaurants. Also at the banquet will be an up and coming singer from Johnston County, Amanda Daughtry, who will perform a variety of songs, Adams said.

Adams said every child that has been granted an adventure through Angels N Camo has been invited to attend the banquet, most of which are scheduled to attend. Their families have been invited to attend as well.

“We’re having this banquet to raise money to help support more adventures,” Adams said. “It’s something we always want our kids to be involved in. This is the first time we’ve done (the banquet) and, hopefully, it will be something we continue to have each year.”

The nonprofit granted six wishes last year, taking kids on hunting or fishing trips, Adams said. That number is double the amount of adventures it granted its first year, so the organization is growing and getting more and more applications.

“It’s important we keep doing fundraisers, so as the adventure requests increase, we have the financial backing to keep it going,” Adams said. “Our first two years, we did three events each year and last year, we doubled to six, so if we continue that trend and continue to get more and more, the funding will become more important as we continue to grow. I don’t ever want to have a waiting list or tell a kid, ‘No.’ So it’s very important to get the support of our community so neither of those options happen.”

In addition to the banquet, the nonprofit is currently getting ready for its annual turkey shoot on June 20 and June 27 at Bunyan Volunteer Fire Department, Adams said. Also, it currently has two turkey hunting adventure requests and two fishing trips to plan and put in motion, as well as a Pizza Inn night coming up on March 16. Between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., the organization will benefit from a portion of the sales and tips left in a special section allotted for Angels N Camo, Adams said.
