Edward John Mullen Sr., age 80, a resident of Croatan Avenue in Bath, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at his home. Mr. Mullen was born on April 18, 1934 in Dane County, Wisconsin to the late Roy and Loretta Mullen. He attended school in Dane County, WI. He retired from the United States Navy in September of 1971. During his tenure, he received a USN Occupation Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, a Vietnam Service Medal (1 star) and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). Mr. Mullen was a member of Bath Christian Church and he enjoyed reading , sports, and his family.
On January 31, 1960, he married the former Jacqueline Brooks. who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Candace M. Medlock (Kevin) of Chocowinity, NC and Regina M. Ritter (Eric) of Robbins, NC; one son, Edward John Mullen, Jr. of Bath, NC; seven grandchildren, Edward John Mullen, III of Chocowinity, NC; Dakota Shaine Mullen of Bath, NC; Jacob Sean Mullen of Bath, NC; Gabrielle Nichole Mullen of Bath, NC; Krista Ritter Greenough (Tim) of Asheboro, NC; Marshall Kevin Medlock, Jr. of Chocowinity, NC and Madison Alexandria Medlock of Chocowinity, NC; and two great-grandchildren, Julia Renee Greenough of Asheboro, NC and Jade Jacqueline Greenough of Asheboro, NC.
A celebration of his life will be held on March 12, 2015 at 2:00 at p.m. at Bath Christian Church, 107 Harding Street, Bath, NC. The service will be officiated by Pastor Merritt Watson. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service and other times at the home. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Marshall Kevin Medlock, Jr., Dakota Shaine Mullen, Jacob Sean Mullen, Johnathan Brooks, Jerry Everett, Jr., Charlie Cutler, Louie Gurganus and Tim Greenough will serve as Pallbearers. Louis Gurganus, Ted Brooks, Dan Brooks, Dwight Humphrey, Jerry Everett, Brantley Tillman and Henry Boyd will serve as honorary Pallbearers. Memorials may be made in Mr. Mullen’s memory to Bath Christian Church, 107 Harding Street, Bath, NC 27808.
