William “Bill” Norris

Mr. William Earl “Bill” Norris, age 92, a resident of 1049 Tuten Road, Blount’s Creek, N.C., died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Two Rivers Healthcare Center of New Bern, N.C.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Edwards Cemetery of Chocowinity officiated by Rev. Jerry Smith.

Mr. Bill was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 27, 1919, son of the late Fenner Norris Sr. and the late Fannie Barr Norris. He attended the Penny Acklin School in Chocowinity and served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Bill married the former Mildred Alice Williams who preceded him in death on Feb. 11, 1967. He later married the former Lela Gray Pollard who preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2010. Mr. Bill was a security guard with Texas Gulf from the time that construction started in Aurora until his retirement. He was also a self-employed farmer and had worked as a butcher in the past.

Survivors include two sons: Fenner Earl Norris and his wife Cindy of New Bern and Stanley Norris and his wife Judie of Vanceboro; two stepsons: Carlton “Butch” Thompson and his wife Deborah of Mobile, Ala. and Gary Thompson of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren: Stacey Griffin and her husband Harold of Vanceboro, Chris Norris and his wife Dana of Morehead City, Rusty Norris and his wife Christie of Hartford, Ala., Alison Norris of Raleigh, Tara Teague and her husband Jason of Reston, Va., Ashley Case of Mobile, Ala., Allison Burnett and her husband Trey of Mobile, Ala., and Nikki Hall and her husband Josh of Houston, Texas, and 10 great-grandchildren: Britanni and Lindsay Norris both of Hartford, Ala., Tyler Griffin of Vanceboro, Kyle Norris of Troy, Mo., Jocelyn and Dashiel Teague both of Reston, Va., Lily Case and Sarah Burnett both of Mobile, Ala., Nathaniel Thompson and Jaden Hall both of Houston, Texas. Mr. Bill was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home of Mr. Bill’s son Stanley Norris located at 3133 Chandler Road, Vanceboro, N.C.
