Mrs. Emily-Jo Spruill Cherry, age 68, a resident of 302 Gorham Acres, Washington, NC died Saturday March 21, 2015 at her home.

A graveside funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday March 25, 2015 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens officiated by Eddie Bowen.

The family will receive friends 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday March 24, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.

Mrs. Cherry was born in Beaufort County on January 27, 1947 daughter of the late John Walter Spruill, Sr. and the late Josephine Fodrey Spruill-Hodges.  She was a 1965 graduate of Washington High School.  On July 12, 1964 she married Bobby Gene Cherry who survives.  In 1981 she received an associate’s degree in Licensed Practical Nursing.  Along with her nursing career she also worked in the field of bookkeeping and sales.  Mrs. Cherry was a former member of Old Ford Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary and the First Christian Church of Washington.

Surviving along with her husband Bobby G. Cherry, Sr. of the home are her two children: Bobby G. Cherry, Jr. and wife Ann of Grimesland and Jennifer Cherry Shea and husband Tommy of Washington; a sister: Betsy P. Lillard and husband Ray of Franklin; a brother: John W. Spruill, Jr. and wife Shirley of Moab, UT and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Cherry’s family would like to thank Asera Care Hospice, a special nurse with Asera Care, Sara Crandall and Dr. David Lewis all for their compassionate care shown to Mrs. Cherry and her family.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to the Old Ford Volunteer Fire Department, 6060 US Hwy. 17 North, Washington, NC 27889.
