JASPER LEE LEWIS SR.

1921 — 2015.

 

POP CITY — Jasper Lewis was born in Pitt County the son of Luzetta Bryant Lewis and Howell Lester Lewis. He was one of fourteen children, ten of whom reached adulthood.

The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville. Burial will follow in the Shackelford Family Cemetery near the home.

Lewis was Superintendent of Washington City Schools from 1968-1980. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Louise S. Lewis, and his two children, Dr. Carolyn L. Sweet and Dr. Jasper L. Lewis, Jr. He has three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Lewis was a WWII and Korean Conflict Veteran who retired as Lt. Col. From the United States Air Force. After over 30 years in the NC Public School System where he was a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent, Lewis and his wife retired to Pop City where they continued to manage farm and forestry operations. He remained active in the Saratoga Christian Church and numerous activities in Eastern North Carolina.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Greenville.
