The Knights of Terra Ceia Christian were on the diamond this week early and often.

Monday pitted the Knights against conference powerhouse Lawrence Academy. It was clear Terra Ceia was coming back from a 10 day layoff from spring break, as Lawrence capitalized on six errors, cruising en route to a 12-2 victory. Jarrett Harrell picked up the win for the Warriors and Austin Roscoe suffered the loss for the Knights.

On Thursday, Terra Ceia hosted Ridgecroft in a double-header Tarheel Independent Conference matchup. Tyler Hendrix improved to 3-0 on the hill, while the Terra Ceia bats showed signs of life, holding off the Rams, 6-3. Austin Roscoe, Austin Wynne, Quentin Van Essendelft and Lelon Stotesberry provided the offense, as they looked to carry over the run support into the second game.

Game 2 had exactly that, as the Knights posted a 9-0 lead in the first two frames. Undefeated junior Chase Furlough (5-0) had control problems on the mound, which aided a slight comeback for Ridgecroft.  However the Knights’ offense continued to click, led by Quentin Van Essendelft’s 3-3 effort at the plate, along with multiple hits from Furlough, Roscoe, Aaron Bell, and Hendrix, as Terra Ceia took the second game as well, 13-6.  This improved the Knights conference record to above .500 at 4-3 in the TIC.

Friday’s game showed the team hitting their stride in the fourth game of the week.  Terra Ceia hosted conference rival Hobgood and the Knights regained their form and showed their growth from earlier in the season. The run support was finally there for Roscoe, the starter, who threw a six inning, no-hitter as the Knights improved to 5-3 in the TIC and 10-4 overall.

“Roscoe had good command on the mound today, and was very efficient each inning.  Defensively, we only had the one error, and we finally began to show what this team is capable of doing,” said head coach Jason Wynne. “We were able to get more continuity through each game we played this week, so I hope we’ll be getting back on track in time for the tournament.”

This is the first double-digit win season for Terra Ceia baseball.
