Betty Leggett Howard
Feb. 13, 1924 – April 18, 2015
Betty Leggett Howard, 91 of Farm Life went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 18, 2015. She was born on February 13, 1924 to the late William Stanley Leggett and Bertie Roberson Leggett. On June 6, 1947 she married Francis Biggs Howard who died October 10, 1995.
Mrs. Howard was a devoted Christian, accepting Christ in October, 1966. She was the epitome of a true Christian and was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church. Until declining health, you would find her in Church every Sunday worshipping her God. She was not only a devoted Christian; she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Next to her Lord, her family was her most prized possession. Nothing made her any happier than to spend time with her family. She was a homemaker and also ran a candy store while her children were young. All the neighborhood kids enjoyed going to Mrs. Betty’s candy store to get their after school snacks. Our family was blessed to have had such a loving and caring role model that put everyone else’s needs before her own. Although our matriarch is no longer with us, the wonderful memories we all share will live forever in our lives.
She is survived by her daughters Betsy Howard Marriner and husband Ralph of Williamston, Melody Howard Ragan and husband Ken of Greenville, Jackie Howard Carranco and husband Arturo of Washington and Bertie Howard Hardison and husband Jimmy of Farm Life, her sons, William Biggs Howard of Farm Life and Danny Earl Howard and wife Deb of Bear Grass; grandchildren Kathy Copeland and husband Billy of Bear Grass, Lori Ann Rowe and husband Billy of Washington, Robbie Marriner and wife Kim of Stokes, Tony Marriner of Williamston, Julie Ezzell and husband Jim of Coral Springs, Florida, Karen Williams of Greenville, Kelly Howard of Asheville. Ashleigh Howard of Williamston, Kristi Ward and husband Nathan of Bear Grass, Renee Joyner and husband Kevin of Williamston, Tony Phelps and wife Stacy of Hickory, and Jim Hardison and wife Jamie of Greenville; great grandchildren, BJ, Josh, Michael and Sara Copeland, Lauren Bass and husband Thomas, Chelsie Davis, Kayla and RJ Marriner, James and Hailey Ezzell, Melody and Lily Korzeniewski, Michael Weigand, Kenleigh and Zoe Ward, Parker and Fischer Joyner and Isaac Hardison and great great grandchildren Hannah Copeland, Slade Manning and Rosie Bass. She is also survived by a brother William Stanley Leggett, Jr. of Williamston.
The family would like to thank the staff at Roanoke River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care that was extended to their mother during her stay there, especially Jonathan Coltrain, Nicole Howard and Freda Hopkins. We would also like to thank the ICU staff at Martin General Hospital for the care that was given to our mother during her last days.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday April 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Liberty Baptist Church by Rev. Doug Knox. Burial will follow in Spring Green Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday April 20th from 7-8:30 PM at Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to Liberty Baptist Church, 100 Chesson Drive, Williamston, NC 27892.
