Mary Elizabeth Jones Sheppard

May 9, 1931- April 21, 2015

 

Mary Elizabeth Jones Sheppard, age 83, a resident of 101 Castle Lane, Washington, NC and former resident of Village Circle in Washington, NC passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice.  Mrs. Sheppard was born in Beaufort County, NC on May 9, 1931 to the late Ernest and Minnie Parrott Jones and she attended Beaufort County Schools.  On January 31, 1948, she married Elmer Leroy Sheppard who predeceased her in 1982.  She was a retired seamstress with Sampson Shirt Factory and was a life-long resident of Beaufort County, NC.  She was a member of Love Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters:  Pauline S.  Jordan of Grifton, NC; Vickie Sheppard of Washington, NC and Mona S. Beachum (Daniel) of Greenville, NC.  She is also survived by her sons:  Ray Sheppard, Sr. of Washington, NC; Billy Gene Sheppard of Tennessee.  She is also survived by one brother, Ernest Earl Jones of Florida. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Alicia Mercer, Chris Hardee, Jason Tyson, Ray Sheppard, Jr., Steven Sheppard and Michael Sheppard and nine great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one brother and seven sisters.

A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Rev. Doug Batchelor. Burial will follow the service at Oakdale Cemetery. Michael Sheppard, Stephen Sheppard, Johnnie Woolard, Jason Tyson, Chris Hardee, A.J. Tyson and Mark Davenport will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations and other times at the home.
