James “Jimmy” Burbage, Sr.

Mr. James Talmadge “Jimmy” Burbage, Sr., age 77, a resident of 655 Burbage Road, Bath, NC died Monday April 20, 2015 at the N.C. State Veterans Home of Kinston.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday April 25, 2015 at St. Clair’s Church of Christ officiated by Craig Hagen. Burial will follow in St. Clair’s Church Cemetery. Mark Paul, Adam Burbage, Donnie Burbage, Thomas Burbage, Chris Smith and Neil Ahearn will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Ray Sasnett, J. Douglas Brinson, Clifton M. Paul, David W. Ipock, Rudy L. Austin, Charles E. Slade, Mark D. Carawan, Leon Garry Jordan, Garry Wayne Sawyer, Earl Dawson Pugh III, Paul Spruill and Tonya Little.
The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday April 24, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and other times at the home.
Mr. Jimmy was born in Beaufort County on September 20, 1937 son of the late Heber V. Burbage and the late Mollie Edna Brinn Burbage. He was a 1956 graduate of Grifton High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy for twenty-one years having served during the Vietnam War. On December 19, 1957 he married the former Mary Frances “Fran” Norman who survives. Following his military career, Jimmy was a welding teacher with Bath High School and Northside High School until his retirement in 1998. He instructed many of Beaufort County’s youth with a trade for life. He was an avid race fan who owned his own racing team, Burbage Motor Sports, and continued his love of teaching to many in the racing field. As a motor sports owner he achieved three championships. Jimmy was a member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ and served on the Tideland Electric Membership Corporation Board for thirty-three years with ten years as president.
Surviving along with his wife Fran of the home are three sons: Jim Burbage, Jr. of Bath, Tom Burbage, Sr. and wife Darla of Washington and Don Burbage and wife Ginger of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter: Barbara B . Paul of Bath; a sister: Diane Stokes and husband Henry of Greenville; seven grandchildren: Thomas H. Burbage, Jr., Adam Ross Burbage, Hailey V. Burbage, Crystal Paul Marriner, Mark Allen Paul, Donnie H. Burbage, Jr. and Lacey Burbage and a great grandson: Landon Thomas Burbage. Jimmy was expecting the birth of his first great granddaughter.
