Mrs. Verda “Inez” Harding Spivey, age 91, a resident of 843 Harding Lane, Chocowinity, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2015, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, conducted by Pastor Ryan Ashlock. Burial will follow in the Spivey Family Cemetery, Harding Lane, Chocowinity.
The following will serve as active pallbearers: Phil Harding, Keith Hickey, Les Leicht, Henry Harding, Kelvin Harding and Richard Potter. Mrs. Spivey’s grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers: Darrell Spivey, Michael Spivey, Chris Bright and Craig Harding.
Mrs. Spivey was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 27, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Henry Oscar Harding and Florence Victoria Barr Harding. Mrs. Spivey attended Chocowinity High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Washington Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was a Past Deaconess. In her spare time, Mrs. Spivey loved flowers, quilting, sewing and canning.
On Jan. 25, 1942, she married Daughtrey Winston Spivey, who survives.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Winston “Lee” Spivey and wife Linda, of Chocowinity, Kenneth Ray “Ken” Spivey and wife Cathy, of Chocowinity; a daughter, Sondra Jean Spivey Bright and husband Gary, of Chocowinity; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by four brothers, Dumay Harding, Clarence Harding, Donald Gray Harding and Mayhew Harding and a sister, Annie Chandler.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015, at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.
