Two will sit out  season opener

GREENVILLE — Two rising senior East Carolina football players, wide receiver Michael Bowman and cornerback Emanuel Davis, have been disciplined following early Saturday morning arrests according to an announcement from head football coach Ruffin McNeill Tuesday afternoon.
The decision came after McNeill and ECU athletics officials were made aware of charges filed against both by the Greenville Police Department and meetings were conducted by McNeill with both players.
The pair will be suspended for the Pirates’ season opener against South Carolina Sept. 3 and will conduct 25 hours of documented community service in addition to regularly-scheduled time through ECU’s Student Development Office and any possible court sentence. McNeill also indicated Bowman and Davis will author formal letters of apology to all law enforcement personnel involved in the incident.
“Representing East Carolina University is a privilege and any behavior which contradicts that is simply unacceptable,” McNeill said. “There’s a level of expectation with conduct standards we have in place, especially with seniors who are in leadership roles. I’m both disappointed and embarrassed with the decisions Michael and Emanuel made and we will continue to hold one’s accountability very seriously.”
Bowman, who was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting a public officer, is a projected starter who stood fourth among all Pirate pass catchers in 2010 with 47 receptions for 434 yards and three touchdowns.
Davis, whose charges include being intoxicated and disruptive in public and resisting a public officer, is a two-time All-Conference USA selection who has experienced 27 starts in 38 career contests. After making 69 stops as a sophomore in 2009, he recorded 54 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass breakups last season.
