BCDC, Fitness Unlimited to host 10th annual HOOPS event

The Beaufort County Developmental Center, Fitness Unlimited and Thomas Training are preparing for the 10th annual HOOPS Basketball Shoot-Out to be held Saturday, May 9, at Fitness Unlimited, located at 622 West 15th St.

In honor of the 10-year HOOPS anniversary, Terrance Copper will be present, meeting attendees and signing autographs. Copper is a former American football wide receiver of the National Football League, who played for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs. Copper, a Washington High School graduate, also played college football at East Carolina.

Players of all ages are invited to test their skills using Fitness Unlimited’s Basketball Shooting Gun. Each player will be given a pre-determined length of time to shoot baskets with the top scoring players advancing to round two.  The top scoring players from round two will play head to head in the championship round.

Walk-ins are welcome and may register at 9 a.m. with the event beginning at 9:30 a.m. A $10 registration fee includes a HOOPS 2015 T-shirt and a chance to win prizes, presented to the top three players. The first place prize is a sixth-month membership to Fitness Unlimited.

Proceeds from HOOPS 2015 will be used for Beaufort County Developmental Center’s Community Inclusion Program. The Community Inclusion Program provides opportunities for small groups of individuals to integrate into the non-handicapped community, many times by joining in senior programs and related activities already existing in most communities. All of the activities are developed, guided and driven by a person-centered planning model and by individual choice.
