CARY — For the first time in years, Beaufort County Post 15 traveled and hour and a half West to take on one of the top Junior American Legion teams in Area 1, the Cary Colts, one of two teams representing the Research Triangle Region. The Pirates, driven by Austin Roscoe right arm and Logan Little’s bat, turned heads in Game 1, securing a 15-3 victory, before losing an early lead in Game 2, falling 4-3.

The win moves Post 15 to a 6-3 record (3-1 Area 1), while Cary also now stands at 6-3.

In Game 1, Roscoe tossed four innings, giving up one run on six hits and two walks, striking out three and coming through with the win.

Second baseman Logan Little led the charge for Post 15 at the plate with a 4-for-4 line, including a triple and two RBIs. On top of his strong outing, Roscoe also finished with two hits on the day.

Taking a one-run advantage into the third inning, hits by Roscoe, Little and Tripp Barfield expanded the Pirates lead to 3-0. After tacking on another two in the fourth, Post 15 put the game away in the final three innings, combining for 10 runs on five walks and hits by Tanner Alligood, Cody Godley, Little (two) and Brantley Cutler (two).

It was a much different result for Beaufort County in Game 2, as the Pirate offense cooled off.

Barfield pitched a masterful first four innings, giving up just one run on two hits and two walks, picking up three strikeouts.

A leadoff single by Alligood, combined with a Godley walk and Roscoe single, gave Post 15 a quick 2-0 lead in the first. But with the score 2-1 after four innings, the visitors would lose their grasp on Game 2.

Little, who relieved Barfield in the fifth, struggled with his command — walking three, giving up a hit and hitting a batter, resulting in the Colts’ three winning runs. Due to time constraints, the game ended in the fifth inning.

Post 15 will host Edenton at Washington High School on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
