The Grandparents are Great program at Eastern Elementary celebrated the completion of another successful school year on Tuesday, May 26 after school. The G.G.’s logged over 1,500 volunteer hours this school year! They enjoyed refreshments provided by Eastern’s teachers and a paper plate award ceremony.
The G.G.s enjoyed receiving a personalized award from the classes with which they worked over the course of the school year. Lisa Bargelt and her G.G. enjoyed refreshments and the chance to visit a bit after a busy school day. Mrs. Bargelt shared that it was very helpful to have another adult in her classroom during the day to help children who needed more individual attention. Her G.G. Linda Roberts shared that her favorite memory from the school year was seeing the excitement of the children when she walked into the classroom and watching how their minds worked when they learned to write.
Most of the classrooms at Eastern Elementary have a Grandparent volunteer who spends time with the children on a weekly basis. We are still accepting more volunteers for the upcoming school year! If you are interested in helping out and becoming a G.G. volunteer please contact Susan P. Hill by calling Eastern Elementary (946-1611) or by email sphill@beaufort.k12.nc.us.
