Washington Harbor District Alliance presents its monthly event, Music in the Streets, showcasing a variety of acts and activities.

Attendees from Washington, Beaufort County and the surrounding area will hit the streets of downtown Washington for music, and will also have the chance to meet representatives from various nonprofits and participate in fun activities for adults and children alike.

Returning to the event tonight will be the Southerner’s Band, a four-man band that will perform various blues and southern rock classics, as well as some self-produced tunes, according to band member Ron Harris, bass player for the Southerner’s.

The band got its start at MITS in 2011 and has been together ever since, performing at various venues throughout eastern North Carolina, including Greenville, New Bern and Washington. Among the bands that the Southerner’s cover includes originals from Allman Brothers Band, Marshall Tucker Band, the Eagles, Bad Company and more.

Harris said MITS was the launch pad for the band and due to a great response, has pulled them together to perform the music they love. With a playlist that will entertain a multi-aged crowd, the band strives to play music attendees will enjoy while having a good time.

“We got a great response that first time, and I think it pulled us all together and we stuck with it,” Harris said. “It’s an event we don’t mind doing because of the appreciation we get from (attendees).”

In addition to the Southerner’s will be: singer/songwriter Erin Lewis, who will present acoustic rock and Americana; Dry Creek Bluegrass Band, who has performed at Union Alley Coffee House and several other events and festivals; 15-year-old Marye Amanda, who will perform pop, country and contemporary Christian music; and Epic Connections, performing classical R&B, pop and alternative rock.

Also returning to MITS for the second time in years are area car clubs Coastal Carolina Ford Club, Eastern North Carolina Thunderbird and Classic Ford Club and Down East Rods and Classics Club, showcasing a variety of classic automobiles.
