Mamie J. Alligood

Oct. 11, 1917 – July 16, 2015

 

Mrs. Mamie Jackson Alligood, age 97, a resident of 40 Magnolia School Road, Washington passed away peacefully Thursday evening July 16, 2015 at River Trace Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday July 20, 2015 at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Pastor Phillip Jethro.  Burial will follow at the Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Timmy Alligood, Richie Alligood, Travis Cherry, Carl Adams, David Dew, Scotty Harding, Matthew Lewis, Luther Paul Lewis and Glenn Sheppard, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.  Jesse Skinner, Kasey Neal and Austin Hudson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on October 11, 1917, daughter of the late Thomas Jackson and Nancy Jefferson Jackson.  On January 15, 1938, she married Charlie Hill Alligood who preceded her in death in May 31, 1994.  She retired from Singer (formerly Edinburg) as an assembler with 25 years of service.  She was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church.   She loved her Lord,  Jesus Christ, her Lord and Saviour.  She loved to watch wrestling, loved to fish, and visiting with Santa.  Mrs. Alligood was very free hearted and loved her family and looked out for them.  She loved to laugh and to receive cards with money at her birthday parties.

She is survived by her children:  Lyda  Alligood Adams of Belhaven, Edna Alligood Sheppard (Jerry); Charlie Ray Alligood (Brenda) and Linda Alligood Sheppard (Glenn) all of Washington; Shirley Marie Alligood Galloway (Bill) of Bath, Dorothy Ann Alligood Lewis of Blounts Creek, Tommy Alligood (Barbie) and Peggy Alligood Cherry of Washington; 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.  In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter: Hilda Louise Alligood; her sister: Lillian Jackson Ward; her brothers: Bonner Jackson and Ottis Jackson and her son-in-laws, Carlyle Adams and Shelton Cherry.

Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

The family will receive friends 6:30-8:30 PM on Sunday  at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of Tommy and Barbie Alligood, 324 River Road, Washington Park.
