Judy Fay Casteen Adkins, 65, of Pungo Shores Drive in Belhaven, passed away July 21, 2015. Judy was a born-again Christian and her family is at peace knowing she has joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven. Judy was born December 14, 1949 in Churchland to the late Clarence Fredrick and Virginia Ballentine Denny Casteen. She was a 1968 graduate of Churchland High School, and following graduation she attended Portsmouth General School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nursing license in 1971. Judy then attended East Carolina University in 1994 where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing Beta Nu Chapter. Her first job in 1971 as a registered nurse was in Riverdale, MD in the operating room. Most of her career Judy was a home health nurse for Bertie County Home Health and an intake nurse for Edgecombe County Home Health. She later served as a nurse investigator for the state of North Carolina. In 2009 Judy retired as the lead school nurse of Washington County Schools. After her retirement Judy enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and she obtained her Master Gardener status with the Beaufort County Agriculture Center.
Judy is survived by her husband, David Lee Adkins; sons, Andrew David Adkins of Washington and Patrick Lee Adkins of Charlottesville, VA; daughter-in-law, Stacey Sue Smith Adkins; and grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Penny, Alexandra Rose Penny, Daniella Lynn Adkins and David Henry Adkins.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. The family will have a reception at the funeral home following the service. Her final resting place will be Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
