Two months removed from the National Sporting Clays Association North Carolina State Championship, Washington’s Hunters’ Pointe will play host to another shoot on the N.C. Circuit Tour on Saturday.
The sporting clays range, located at 506 Decoy Drive off of Highway 17, will serve as one of seven locations in eastern North Carolina on the tour and is open to the public.
“Everybody is familiar with golf. Sporting clays is golf with a shotgun,” said owner Mike Oliver, who took over the range in October of last year. “There are 14 stations and six to eight targets a station. You try to hit max targets and move on to the next station. Highest score wins.”
Each shooter will get a maximum of 200 birds — 100 in the morning round and 100 in the evening round. The Circuit Shoot is $70 to register, $8 of which will go towards prize winnings at the finale of the shoot. Every shooter must shoot with a group of four or more. N.C. state champion Wesley Elliot is expected to be in attendance.
“We’ll definitely surpass last year’s attendance,” Oliver said, who hosted over 200 shooters for the state championship in late May. “I’m expecting around 35-40 shooters total. We welcome all shooters from novice to advanced to corporate groups.
Hunters’ Pointe will also hold a Fun Shoot with a registration fee of $60. The two course events are open all day and each participant has the option to shoot one or both. A lunch of burgers and hotdogs will be provided.
All targets are NSCA registered and the Circuit Shoot only permits factory ammo. Known as one of the premier ranges in eastern N.C., Hunters’ Pointe consists of 14 operational fields, a five-stand layout and a pistol range.
