WASHINGTON KIWANIS CLUB
The Washington Kiwanis Club presented a $1,000 check to leaders from P.S. Jones Middle School in support of their One School, One Book program. The program is a national initiative in which an entire school (all students and all staff) read the same book at the same time. Benefits of the program include enhanced school unity; elimination of stereotypes; provide ancillary programs, including writing, trivia and art contests to foster a fun atmosphere and emphasize positive character traits. In remarks to the club, Dawn Landen reported that the program was well received by both students and staff in its first year.
The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue, Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
