Mr. Daniel Francis Fitzgerald, age 57, a resident of 706 Charlotte Street, Washington, died Friday, July 24, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church of Washington, officiated by Father Brendan Buckler and Father Gaston Nsongolo Baswekundola. Burial will take place at a later date in Massachusetts.

A rosary service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington followed by a visitation until 8:00 P.M. The family will receive friends at other times at the home.

Mr. Fitzgerald was born in Suffolk County, MA on October 16, 1957, son of the late James Anthony Fitzgerald and the late Anna Mary Norton Fitzgerald. He was a 1975 graduate of Randolph High School in Randolph, MA and continued his education by earning his BA in political science from U Mass in 1982 and his Associate’s in nursing at Beaufort County Community College in 2003. On August 16, 1981 he married the former Lisa Anne Daynes who survives.

Following his medical education, he worked as a registered nurse at Vidant Medical Center, Vidant Beaufort Hospital and Carolina East Medical Center. Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church where he was involved in the Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent De Paul. He was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Surviving along with his wife Lisa of the home are two sons: Daniel Fitzgerald, Jr. and wife Amy Erickson of Rockland, MA and Timothy Fitzgerald of Washington; a daughter: Megan Fitzgerald of Los Alamitos, CA; four brothers: James A Fitzgerald of Bedford, MA, John Patrick Fitzgerald and Albert A. Fitzgerald both of Boston, MA and Michael E. Fitzgerald of Sneeds Ferry, NC; two sisters: Maryanne Fitzgerald of Arlington, MA and Regina McGrory of Falmouth, MA; two grandchildren: Natalie Grace Fitzgerald of Washington and Anna Cathryn Fitzgerald of Rockland, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Fitzgerald was preceded in death by a brother: Leo Fitzgerald and a sister: Kathleen Pinto.
