DOWN EAST SENIORS CLUB

The Down East Seniors Club held its July 29 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Stewart Rumley led the meeting. Bill Cheshire led the singing of “God Bless America” and President Rumley gave the invocation. Dick Robinson and Dick Paul provided humor.

New member Ed Bolen was introduced.

Program Chairman Joe Rose and his wife Ruth introduced Colleen Puceta, activities director with the Grace Martin Harwell Senior Center. Ms. Puceta told about the many programs and activities presented by the center. Some of these are yoga and tai chi, AHOY seated exercises, canasta and bridge, bingo, computer lab, lending library, billiards, fitness room, senior games, clubs, mah jongg, walking program, painting, health promotion classes, pickleball and American Cancer Society Road to Recovery. Assistance programs include phone reassurance, tax assistance, legal aide, Medicare Part D enrollment, rides to medical appointments and disaster preparation.

Support groups include caregivers, people raising grandchildren, grief support and diabetic support. There are also many trips and other special activities throughout the year.
