Barbara Garrish Harris, age 59, a former resident of 3674 Cherry Road, Washington, died Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice House in Greenville.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 14, 2015 in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, conducted by Burke Holland. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the service time. A private burial will follow.
Barbara was born in Beaufort County on April 7, 1956, the daughter of the late Myron Blount Garrish and Shirley Spencer Garrish. She was a graduate from Pungo Christian Academy where she held a basketball record for 16 years scoring the most points in a single game. She earned a nursing degree at Beaufort County Community College and was a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. Barbara was also a member of the Pinetown Rescue Squad. She attended the First Free Will Baptist Church, and in her spare time, she enjoyed landscaping, the water and fishing.
Survivors include a daughter: Chrystal Harris and husband: John Leamond of Long Island, Va.; a son: Rex Harris Jr. and wife: Bailey of Greenville, N.C.; two grandchildren: Gavin and Kynlie Harris; two sisters: Sylvia Lucas of Raleigh and Teresa Respess of Plymouth; two brothers: Rayford Garrish of Belhaven and Myron “Ron” Garrish of Pantego.
Along with her father, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Maurice Garrish.
