FROM ELIZABETH TANKARD
The Summer Reading Program season has officially drawn to a close. We would like to thank all the performers, kids and teens that made this year a blast. We hope to see all of you again next year, as well as a few new faces.
We would like to congratulate our top readers for the summer. In the “easy” reader category, Peyton Williams was the top girl reader and Robin Garrett was the top boy reader. In the “chapter books” category, Rosaleigh Clipperton was our top girl reader and Spencer Allen was awarded the top boy reader. Congrats to all our top readers and to everyone who completed their summer reading goals this season.
Our Teen Summer Reading Program was another smash hit. We ended the season with a masquerade ball, where our winners were announced. The top four readers were awarded medals for their accomplishments. The grand-prize winner was Adam Midyette. The gold medal was awarded to Laura Smith, silver to Iran Alexa Huerta and bronze to Rhianna Clipperton. We also had a first- and second-runner up prize this year, going to Catherine Tankard and Alyssa Tankard respectively. Thank you to all the teens that came out week after week to all of our events and those that participated in our reading challenges.
The library would also like to take the time to thank all the businesses and organizations that make our reading season such a huge success. Thanks to the Washington First United Methodist Church, Litho Graphix, Rachel K’s Bakery, Tayloe’s Hospital Pharmacy, Carmike Cinema of Washington, Backwater Jack’s, Barnes & Noble of Greenville, Hardee’s of Washington, Scoops Ice Cream, Pizza Inn of Washington, McDonalds of Washington, Taco Bell, the State Library of NC and the staff and volunteers of Brown Library. We would also like to especially thank our wonderful Friends of the Brown Library organization for their continued support. Without their aid, our Summer Reading program wouldn’t be nearly as successful!
Spend the last lazy days of summer catching up on some movie time. Teens are invited to join us on Aug. 21, starting at 1 p.m., for a marathon of the movies based on Veronica Roth’s bestselling young adult series. Bring a blanket or pillow and plan to get comfy. Both films are rated PG-13. There is no sign-up to attend this event, but seating is limited.
Also be on the lookout for details on the annual Pirates and Princesses Tea Party coming in September.
Find us on Facebook at http://facebook.com/GeorgeHLauraEBrownLibrary or call the library at 252-946-4300 if you have any questions about any of our events.
Brown Library will be closed Sept. 7, all day, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen on Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. and resume normal operating hours.
Brown Library is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays; and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
