Mr. Garland Davis Bowden, age 82, a resident of 1010 Elliot Road, Bath, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Vidant Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, September 11, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington and will be conducted by Pastor Doug Batchelor. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Craig Everett, Jerry Masten, David Bowden, Jerry Murphy, David Johnson and Clarence “Pee Wee” Richardson III will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Bowden was born in Hopewell, Virginia on June 11, 1933 to the late Rufus and Ella Jane Davis Bowden. On June 30, 1985 he married Beulah Mae Waters who survives. Garland served his country during the Korean Conflict while a proud member of the United States Navy. Upon completing his service to the country, he became a motorcycle policeman for the town of Norfolk, Virginia. To support his family, he reluctantly left the police force and began employment with Ford Motor Company in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon his retirement from Ford Motor Company, he moved to Bath and enjoyed his retirement in the quiet country, sitting on his front porch for many hours reading or just enjoying nature.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Beulah Bowden of the home; four sons, David Scott Bowden and wife Carol of Chocowinity, Christopher A. Bowden and wife Shelia of Washington, Stephen T. Bowden and wife Carol of Washington, Michael Bowden of Washington; stepson, Tony M. Jackson of Bath; stepdaughter, Kristi J. Hamilton of Bath; three granddaughters, Samantha Bowden and Courteney Bowden of Washington, Kylie Bowden of Chocowinity; three step-grandchildren, W. Thomas Hamilton of Raleigh, Alana K. Everett and husband Travis of Grimesland, Sarah Tyson and husband Jason; one step-great-grandson, Conner L. Tyson of Chocowinity; one brother, James Bowden and wife Peggy of Chesapeake, Virginia; one sister, Marie Morrissette and husband Greg of Punta Gorda, Florida and his dogs, beloved Missy and Mutt. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Morgan Nicole Bowden.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, other times at the home and also at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Shelia Bowden, 1151 Magnolia School Road, Washington.
