JONATHAN ROWE | DAILY NEWS HONORING A SPIRITUAL LEADER: The Washington Women’s Bible Study celebrated its 30-year-anniversary with a special meeting yesterday at First United Methodist Church. At the meeting, the group recognized Fran Stephenson, the Bible study’s founder, who led the group for most of its existence. Stephenson spoke about the need to learn how to live through Biblical teachings and that the Bible study group had lasted this long due to a solid foundation built on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Stephenson quoted Proverbs 3:1, “My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments,” and Proverbs 3:5, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Stephenson was honored by the Bible study’s board with a certificate of service and current leader of the Bible study, Lorre Bowen, announced a fund set up in Stephenson’s name for community outreach projects, benefitting those in need in the community. Pictured, Elizabeth Jones (left), who has led the group for the past five years, presents the certificate to Stephenson (middle).
